Algonquin Park Cabins and Adventure lodges

Having operated the Algonquin Log Cabin, an off the grid adventure lodge at Algonquin Park's north west corner for over 15 years, it is my intention here to help you, the discerning adventure traveler understands the different choices between the myriad of Algonquin Park cabins, Algonquin Park cottages and Algonquin adventure lodges that surround Algonquin Park. For the purposes of this article, we define an Algonquin Park Aadventure Lodge and or Algonquin Park Cabin as a lodge based or cabin based adventure operation where the primary purpose is guided or self guided canoeing, hiking, backcountry skiing etc.

Are you looking for a guided Algonquin Park Cabin based adventure or more of a hotel, hostel?

Adventure lodges focus on providing some element of adventure either guided or provide logistics for self guided discovery. In Algonquin park, this translates to providing cabin based wildlife, canoe, hiking, backcountry ski, snowshoe or dogsled adventures.

Again, using our Algonquin Log Cabin as an example of an Algonquin Park Adventure Lodge, 3 day Algonquin cabin based adventures feature unique guided canoe excursions to search for wildlife, night paddles from our dock on a remote lake. There is no electricity- the cabin is off the grid, surrounded by nature. The closest highway is 25km away. Our Algonquin Cottage Outpost or Island retreat is an example of a self guided Algonquin cabin based option. Both provide a comfortable base to jump off on self guided excursions. Customers have options for canoe, kayak and adventure equipment rentals, shuttles, licensed patio with meals etc.

Compare and contrast., Algonquin Park does have three hotels along the only highway that goes through the southern portion of the Park. Located on the highway 60 corridor, these three offer fine dining and comfortable accommodation. Their customer is on a car based vacation where one drives to the corridor attractions like the Algonquin Visitor Centre, logging museum and otherwise enjoys sitting lakeside and looking at nature. Make a decision and base your selection on if you want to participate ie get in a canoe , hike trails or drive through nature.
