5-Day Canoe and Log Cabin - Algonquin Park

"Combination of Algonquin Canoe Trip and Log Cabin stay"

Clothing Suggestions

This trip has a mix of both camping and Log Cabin accommodation. You can leave valuables (wallet, passport, etc.) and clothing for days 3-5 with our driver who will store it at our Algonquin Log Cabin. Please arrive dressed for the canoe trip on day 1. It is a good idea to dress in layers so that you can swim, put on a sweater or raincoat if necessary.

ALGONQUIN CANOE TRIP (Days 1 to 3)
Don?t worry about what type of bag to bring as we conduct a "duffel shuffle" at the "put in" and repack your clothes in our canoe packs. If you have a daypack, please bring it for rain gear, camera, water bottle, sunscreen etc. We supply ensolite sleeping pads; if you have a thermarest, please bring it along.

SLEEPING BAG You will need a three season (-8C) sleeping bag. If you don?t have one, rentals are available at $25 per trip.

Air Mattress We supply ensolite pads in our package. For added comfort, please bring an air mattress. Rentals are available for $12/ trip.

RAIN GEAR - A hooded jacket and separate pants work best. A poncho will also suffice.

FOOTWEAR - The trip requires a solid running shoe with rubber soles. Trail shoes or approach shoes (low cut with stiff shank) are ideal. A second pair of sandals/shoes is necessary for evenings - count on the trail shoes getting very wet and muddy during the day.

WARM CLOTHES - While the weather is usually warm and dry, late spring/summer/fall temperatures can drop to 3C at night. The winds are also quite cool. Bring a wind proof shell/jacket, warm sweater (wool or fleece), warm wool socks, long pants, and long-sleeved shirt. Synthetic long underwear, a hat/toque and gloves are a good idea for spring and fall trips.

SUN PROTECTION - Dehydration and sunburn can wreak havoc on your energy so bring along a water bottle, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and shorts.

BUG DOPE AND FLASHLIGHT - While spring (May 20 to July 10) is bug season, bogs and portages can be buggy in August! Bring along insect repellent with DEET level over 25%. Muskol is very effective. A flashlight is recommended for evenings.

OTHER IMPORTANT ITEMS - Bathing suit, T-shirt(s), bandanna, camera, extra film and batteries. Remember space is limited so please keep toiletries to a minimum.

ALGONQUIN LOG CABIN (Days 3-5)
Most of the same clothing will work for the Log Cabin portion of the trip. We suggest adding the following, which you should pack in a separate bag and leave with the driver who will have it waiting for you at the Algonquin Log Cabin on day 3.

TOWEL - for the shower and swimming

CHANGE OF CLOTHING - extra T-shirt, pants, shoes or thick socks for inside.

EXTRA BATTERIES FOR FLASHLIGHT AND FILM FOR CAMERA

LIQUOR OR BEER - the Log Cabin is not licensed - please feel free to bring whatever you like to drink.

Remember to send us copies of your photographs!
We offer a free trip at the end of the year for the best photo.
