Itinerary
Hockey tournaments are fun and offer a chance for teams to get to know each other, bond and have fun. Having said this, hotel rooms are often not the best venue for team building. Restaurants can add up. Add to this that some tournaments can have stiff competition which translates to 3 games and out.
The Algonquin Hockey Retreat offers an alternative to the tournament experience. Rather than a roadside motel, the Algonquin Log Cabin is located in a scenic wilderness location at the edge of Algonquin’s North West corner. Operated by wilderness guides, teams take part in unique outdoor adventures in the lakes and forest that surround the cabin.
Winter features snowshoe treks to forest lookouts, GPS challenges, lakeside broomball and options to go dogsleddng. Spring and fall trips feature canoe excursions down the South River, bass fishing competitions, and survivor man challenges.
Hockey is not forgotten! Each weekend retreat includes a Saturday morning two hour practice at a local rink and a Sunday morning game against a Near North Team.
Teams sleep in the rustic Algonquin Log Cabin. The cabin sleeps 12 – 16 with two shared washrooms, separate shower and sauna cabin. The Coaching staff sleeps in the accompanying guide cabin. Any accompanying parents interested in attending have the option to stay at our Algonquin Cottage Outpost 10 km away or a lakeside Inn 30 minutes away.
The retreat includes all meals, guided excursions and ice time. Transportation and ground shuttles can be added on for an additional cost.
