This was our family’s fifth year at the winter log cabin, and 9 years since our first summer trip with VQ. Every time it’s been a highlight of our year. The winter cabin in particular is magical — a rustic winter wonderland, with delicious food, excellent guides and total disconnection from civilization and city life. (Although warm and cosy, bear in mind there is no electricity!) Marc-Andre, Heather and Emily were a particularly wonderful team in 2018. We can’t wait to continue the tradition!

We had the pleasure of staying at the Algonquin Log Cabin February 19-21 for a spectacular winter wonderland! We had booked a 3 day winter lodge adventure through Voyageur Quest that included snow shoe, cross country ski and dogsledding. The entire experience from the initial emails and inquisitive phone calls, up to the day we left was nothing short of amazing! The cabin and surrounding area was just beautiful.
Inside the cabin was warm and welcoming. The fireplace alone was worth the drive! Our two guides, Nick & Andrea were friendly, well educated, entertaining and a whole lot of fun! All of the prepared meals were amazing and even the snacks were fantastic! You won’t go hungry! There were plenty of opportunities to keep busy and have fun from the torch lit luge run, guided hikes, “learn to ski” tutorial and the grand finale of dog sledding. The hikes provided many breathtaking & spectacular views for some glorious photo ops. There was also ample time to self explore, unwind and recharge. We took advantage of the frozen lake and enjoyed a successful ice fishing adventure as well. The sauna and hot shower was a welcome pleasure after enjoying the leisurely days of playing in the great outdoors. Cell phone reception (with Bell) was spotty, but there were a couple of areas where a signal could be reached such as at the top of the luge, and 200 yards from the cabin on the lake. The scenery and seclusion was a welcome change from the everyday and we saw and heard many signs of wildlife including moose tracks, a beaver in the dam, owls hooting at night, red squirrels and many birds. This included several blue jays that seemed to have taken up residence at the cabin! It was a vacation that we will always treasure and highly recommend to anyone that enjoys the splendour of the wilderness and will appreciate the grandeur of the rustic, electricity free log cabin. Remember to tip your guides as they are at your service pretty much 24/7. Angel
