Trip Itinerary

Here's what you can expect on a typical 3 Day Winter Lodge Adventure. This is just an example; exact programming is subject to weather and guest preferences.

Day 1
Arrive at the Algonquin Log Cabin at 12:30pm. After a tasty lunch, snowshoe to a forest lookout. Look for wildlife tracks and learn about Algonquin in winter. Return for appetizers and dinner in front of the stone fireplace. Later try your hand at torch-lit broom ball or skating on the lake.
Day 2
Rise and enjoy a hearty Canadian breakfast. Learn or refresh back-country ski skills before taking off across Surprise Lake and the Island Circuit. Stride and glide through the hemlock trails and enjoy the silence of the snow-laden forest. Return to the cabin for a hot lunch and fresh-baked dessert. The afternoon has options: ski or snowshoe the highlands of Kettle Lake; ski to the wall tent across Surprise Lake; or relax and grab a book in front of the fire. Finish your afternoon with a sauna and hot shower.
Day 3
Explore the Ridge Trail by ski or snowshoe to Moose Bay. Make your way back to the Log Cabin for a final group lunch. Departure is after lunch.

There are as many as 12 guests on each trip and three staff members. Our guests range in age and nationality. We do our best to sort our guests into like-demographics (ie: families together; adults together). It’s not unusual for guests to be trading emails at the end of their trips – it’s easy to make friends when you’re having so much fun!

You do not require any prior experience. We host a range of guests from first-timers to grizzled outdoors people every week. Our pace is relaxed and the objective is to have fun, slow down, and leave plenty of time to explore the beauty of the Algonquin area.

You should be able to be active for up to four hours (walking pace) at a time. While travelling in the backcountry, we make frequent stops for snacks, hydration, toilet, and to admire the gorgeous views!

We provide fresh and mostly whole-foods meals that are prepared with care and skill. Whether you are in the backcountry or in our Algonquin Log Cabin, you will be served appetizers, main courses, and desserts. Our guests are consistently impressed with our elevated cuisine. Please explain in detail any special dietary needs or allergies you might have during your booking. Kid-friendly foods are added to Family Trips.

We are happy to accommodate  dietary requirements. For more specialty diets such as dairy free, vegan or gluten there is an additional charge.  Please be sure to describe your requirement in detail when making your booking. For severe allergies, it is recommended that you bring 2 EpiPens with you.

Absolutely!   (and enjoy responsibly!)

Bring whatever you wish. Best advise is to bring a bag of ice with you as well. Remember: we are off grid – that means no fridge! We can provide you with a cooler to use for your stay.
