It means that our Algonquin Log Cabin Adventures are remote in feeling and the cabin is not hooked up to the Ontario power or any municipal system. We create our own power via solar and have backup from a generator.
There are two indoor bathrooms for the guests to use in the Log Cabin with flushing toilets. All of the water in the building comes from our well and is filtered for drinking before reaching the faucet.
There is a shower in the shower/sauna house which has been fitted with an electric pump on solar power to increase the water pressure. The shower in the shower/sauna house is available any time, day or night.
No. The Algonquin Log Cabin does not have reliable cell signal. We do have a satellite phone and Wi-Fi for emergencies.
The Algonquin Log Cabin does have limited solar power for lights and water pressure.
Yes you can drive right to the Algonquin Log Cabin. In winter, the roads are plowed and are considered “snow roads”. Snow roads mean they are plowed into packed down snow which you are able to drive on! Snow tires are recommended.
Voyageur Quest’s guides are skilled outdoor professionals who ensure your trip is an adventure of a lifetime. On top of being well-versed in the natural and cultural history of Algonquin Park, our guides are warm, personable, and service-oriented. Most are graduates of post-secondary programs related to outdoor adventure and all possess industry certification in wilderness first aid.
You only need to bring your personal items: clothing, toiletries, and a camera. A complete list of what to bring will be emailed to you after booking. Raincoat, 2 pairs of shoes. We are BYOB.
Up to 14 guests; the Pinecroft, our second cabin steps away, may also be used. Three staff members look after you. Our guests range in age and nationality. We do our best to sort our guests into like-demographics (i.e., families together; adults together). It’s not unusual for guests to be trading emails at the end of their trips – it’s easy to make friends when you’re having so much fun!
You do not require any prior experience. We host a range of guests from first-timers to grizzled outdoors people every week. Our pace is relaxed and the objective is to have fun, slow down, and leave plenty of time to explore the beauty of the Algonquin area.
You should be able to be active for up to 2.5 hours (walking pace) at a time. Most of our excursions leave from and return to the cabin. For example a hike that runs 9:30–11:30 am.
We provide fresh and mostly whole-food meals that are prepared with care and skill. At the Algonquin Log Cabin, we love to bake and make great meals. Our guests are consistently impressed with our elevated cuisine. Please explain in detail any special dietary needs or allergies you might have during your booking.
We are happy to accommodate dietary requirements. For more specialty diets such as dairy-free, vegan or gluten-free there is an additional charge. Please be sure to describe your requirement in detail when making your booking. For severe allergies, it is recommended that you bring 2 EpiPens with you.

Bring whatever you wish. Best advice is to bring a bag of ice with you as well. Remember: we are off-grid – that means no fridge! We can provide you with a cooler to use for your stay.
