Trip Itinerary

Here's what you can expect on an average Private Algonquin Park Winter Eco-Adventure. This is just an example; exact programming is subject to weather and guest preferences.

Day 1
Arrive at the Algonquin Cottage Outpost at 12:30pm. After a tasty lunch, snowshoe to a forest lookout. Look for wildlife tracks and learn about Algonquin in winter. Return for appetizers and dinner in front of the fireplace. Later try your hand at torch-lit broom ball or skating on the lake under the stars.
Day 2
Rise and enjoy a hearty Canadian breakfast. Learn or refresh back-country ski skills before taking off across Kawawaymog Lake. Stride and glide through the hemlock trails and pine-laced shores. Enjoy the silence of the snow-laden forest. Return for a hot lunch and fresh baking. The afternoon has options: ski the Forgotten Trails, snowshoe to the top of Moose Mountain, or relax and read a book in front of the fire. Finish the day with a home-cooked meal in the cozy cabin.
Day 3
Snowshoe or ski to a winter camp deep in the Algonquin forest for a gourmet lunch. Option to add on a dogsled trail ride. In the dogsled orientation you learn the musher’s words, like gee (right), haw (left), whoa (stop) and gang line, then drive your own team of huskies on a trail ride.
Day 4
Breakfast by the fire, then one last ski or snowshoe before check-out at 10 am.

“The accommodations were great – very spacious. Very clean and functional. The wood burning stove did a great job. Our guide was outstanding. He was very relaxed, welcoming and knowledgeable. The activities were all that we expected. The highlight was clearly the dogsledding! Highly recommended. We will be back next year.”

“We had a wonderful family weekend at the Magnetawan cottage. Excellent service, very friendly staff. We went snowshoeing, backcountry skiing and dog sledding, and we had a lot of fun. The cottage is very comfortable with all that you need. It is really a very Canadian experience!”
