FAQs for Hondoo Island Algonquin Cottage
It means that Hondoo Cottage is not like most homes that are hooked up to the Ontario Power Electricity Grid. Rather, solar panels harness the energy from the sun and store it in batteries that allow us to operate very comfortably on solar power. We are very proud of this sustainable approach. We do, of course, have a back up generator on-site should we have any issues with the system.
Park your car at Voyageur Outfitting location, Algonquin Park Access Point #1. We will bring you and your luggage with a Pontoon boat over to Hondoo Island Algonquin Cottage and help you unload.
Yes, we operate on solar electricity. Our fridge and dishwasher are powered by solar electricity and our stove, water heater, laundry machine and dryer run on propane gas. Please note tthe Hondoo Cottage is very comfortable, yet some appiances may be not suitable as they consume to much power. Please talk to our office for details . Be sure to bring spare batteries for your devices when you visit!
Yes, we provide towels and linens. We provide bath towels but not beach towels. If you think you might need some additional towels, we would advise you to bring some spare ones (as per our sustainability policy) as we do not provide extras.
Yes there is cell service and wifi on Hondoo Island!
Water from the tap is not drinkable. The Voyageur Quest team will ensure you have a continous supply of drinking water that you can access from a stand up water dispenser in the kitchen.
Hondoo Island Cottage comes with one canoe, paddles, PFDs and a paddle boat. Additional canoes, kayaks, and SUP boards can be rented from our Voyageur Outfitting store, just a 15 minute paddle away. We also have a 9.9 HP Motorboat that can be rented for the week that families enjoy using for fishing.
Yes, you can fish on the lake, river and surrounding area. You must have your own Ontario fishing license and Outdoors Card. For non-Canadian residents, see 1-day permits here
Fishing rods and tackle can be rented from our Voyageur Outfitting store.
Single meals or fully-catered meal packages are available – contact our office for more information. The Broken Paddle Patio is licensed and offers outstanding dinners. Please ensure you make a reservation.
We do love dogs and you are more than welcome to bring your furry friend. Please note that you are responsible
for cleaning up after your dog and for any damage to furniture, floors etc. that your dog may cause. An additional damage deposit of $250 is required for guests with pets.
We recommend all of our customers purchase CANCELLATION INSURANCE from their preferred suppliers. Please read the payment and cancellation policies below based on the adventure or product you are booking.

Payment Policy. A 25% deposit with “to book” form information confirms the booking. The balance is due 30 days before the trip. Full payment is due for trips booked within 45 days of the trip date. Please note a 2.4% credit card fee is applied. We encourage e transfer or bank wire transfer wherever possible.
Cancellation Policy. Cancellation received 60 days or more prior to the trip – Full refund minus a $75.00 admin. fee. Cancellation received less than 60 days – Loss of initial deposit. Cancellation received less than 30 days – No refund will be issued without the purchase of cancellation insurance, purchased at the time of booking from your travel insurance provider.
