Log Cabin Christmas with tree and fireplace

Looking for Something Different This Christmas or New Year’s? Celebrate at an Off-Grid Log Cabin in Algonquin

Same house, same crowded mall, same countdown on TV? This year, try a frozen lake, a roaring fire and a sky so full of stars you’ll forget to check the time.

Our off-grid Log Cabin on Surprise Lake, just outside Algonquin Park, is open over the holidays. Traditional light and heat, no screens, and someone else doing all the cooking.

White Christmas

A white Christmas in a big log cabin with a massive fireplace. It’s a winter dream shared by many, and here it’s real. Far from the city’s hustle and bustle, time slows down.

Snow piles deep on the roof and drifts across the frozen lake. Inside, the fire burns all day under the log mantel, and a real tree stands in the corner. Pull a plaid blanket over a leather armchair, sip some eggnog, and wait for someone to pick up the guitar.

Hang your stockings on Christmas Eve. Wake to a crackling fire and Christmas brunch, then ski into the sun across Surprise Lake. Other days, strap on snowshoes and follow fox and deer tracks through quiet forest.

Come back to hot soup and warm beer bread. Add a dog sled ride if you like, then thaw out in the sauna.

Every meal is festive, and Christmas dinner is the big one, cooked for you and served by lantern light. No dishes, no driving between relatives, no one on their phone.

New Year’s Eve: Ring In 2027 Under the Stars

Forget the crowded bar and the countdown on a screen. Here, New Year’s Eve is a full day outside: skiing, snowshoeing, and torchlit broomball on the frozen lake.

After a big dinner, everyone heads out to the campfire. Count down to midnight around the flames, under a sky full of stars, laughing with the people you came with.

New Year’s Day: start 2027 with a real adventure: a big breakfast, a ski across the lake, then the sauna and a New Year’s polar plunge. You’ll come out rosy-cheeked and happy, feeling more alive than you have in months.
