TRIP ITINERARY

Day 1
Rendez-vous for lunch at the Algonquin Log Cabin at the northwest corner of Algonquin Park. Learn to paddle a canoe followed by an interpretive hike of Kitchie Island. Choose to return to the Log Cabin to relax or continue your adventure by paddling around Surprise Lake. Wind down the afternoon with a cool drink on the sun deck, a dip in the lake, or unwind in the sauna. Feast on a gourmet, home-cooked dinner followed by a night paddle in a 26-foot Voyageur Canoe, listening to the sounds of Algonquin.
Day 2
Morning hike to Lookout Bluff with a spectacular view overlooking the lakes of Algonquin. Return for lunch back at the Log Cabin and spend the afternoon relaxing, exploring Surprise Lake by canoe, swimming, fishing, or reading a book on the porch. Go for a late afternoon paddle to a scenic campfire point for sunset, bonfire and a cook-out dinner. After dinner, learn about the northern sky as you canoe under the stars back to the Log Cabin.
Day 3
Rise and shine for an amazing sunrise paddle through the morning mist. Search for moose or beaver lodges and take advantage of spectacular photography opportunities. Enjoy a cook-out maple syrup breakfast and then return to the Log Cabin for a Canadian-style BBQ lunch. Swim, sauna, and take in the pristine wilderness before an afternoon departure.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

“What an amazing place!! You will not be disappointed if you are looking for a weekend of hiking, plenty of canoeing and the most wonderful food!”

Rebecca

“One of the most amazing trips I have been on in the Canadian wilderness. We had great guides who were very knowledgeable about Canadian wildlife. The Log Cabin we stayed in was very beautiful, clean and felt like home. The food there was exceptional.”

FAQs for Algonquin Log Cabin

“Off the grid”  means that our cabin is not hooked up to the Provincial  power ” grid .  We do have limited power  from our solar solar panels and batteries.

There is no reliable cell service  or WIFI  at the log cabin.

We do have limited solar power for lights and our water pressure.

There are two indoor bathrooms for the guests to use in the Log Cabin with flushing toilets. All of the water in the building comes from our well and is filtered for drinking before reaching the faucet.

There is a shower in the shower/sauna house which has been fitted with an electric pump on solar power to increase the water pressure.

Voyageur Quest’s guides are skilled outdoor professionals who ensure your canoe or cabin trip is an adventure of a lifetime. On top of being well versed in the natural and cultural history of Algonquin Park, our guides are warm, personable, and service-oriented. Most are graduates of post-secondary programs related to outdoor adventure and all possess industry certification in wilderness first aid, life-guarding, and canoe instruction.

You only need to bring your personal items: clothing, toiletries, and cameras. A complete list of what to bring will be emailed to your after booking. We are BYOB so please do bring your favorite beverage for sinner or the dock.

Solo travelers are welcome! Our groups have up to 12 guests per trip. Everyone becomes fast friends while canoeing and hiking!

There are as many as 14 guests on each trip and three staff members. Our guests range in age and nationality, with the majority visiting from Europe. We do our best to sort our guests into like-demographics (ie: families together; adults together). It’s not unusual for guests to be trading emails at the end of their trips – it’s easy to make friends when you’re having so much fun!

You do not require any prior experience. We host a range of guests from first-timers to grizzled outdoors people every week. Our pace is relaxed and the objective is to have fun, slow down, and leave plenty of time to explore the beauty of the Algonquin area.

You should be able to be active for up to four hours (walking pace) at a time. While travelling in the backcountry, we make frequent stops for snacks, hydration, toilet, and to admire the gorgeous views!

We provide fresh and mostly whole-foods meals that are prepared with care and skill. Whether you are in the backcountry or in our Algonquin Log Cabin, you will be served appetizers, main courses, and desserts. Our guests are consistently impressed with our elevated cuisine. Please explain in detail any special dietary needs or allergies you might have during your booking. Kid-friendly foods are added to Family Trips.

We are happy to accommodate dietary requirements. For speciality diets such as vegan, dairy free or gluten free there is an additional cost. Please be sure to describe your requirement in detail when making your booking. For severe allergies, it is recommended that you bring two EpiPens with you.

Absolutely!   (and enjoy responsibly!) Bring whatever you wish. Best advice is to bring a bag of ice with you as well. Remember: we are off grid – that means no fridge! We can provide you with a cooler to use for your stay.
